4 Ways To Make Laundry More Enjoyable

Laundry

Let’s talk about laundry. I feel like this is the household chore that is most ranted about by all women. I think it has something to do with the fact that it’s a never-ending chore. There will always be dirty clothes and towels and dishcloths lying around somewhere. Always.

I honestly don’t hate doing laundry. Doing loads of laundry actually makes me feel productive, and I love folding clothes and putting them away. I feel so accomplished! The only thing that really bothers is remember to take the clothes out of the dryer before they wrinkle (because this momma doesn’t iron). But I always forget, and so my clothes probably go through the dryer at least twice, oops. And I won’t lie, I always have laundry piles around my house, because as much as I don’t mind doing the laundry, I usually get distracted half-way through (#toddlermomprobs). I also don’t love carrying my laundry up and down my stairs (our laundry room is in the basement) (#firstworldproblems) but then I remember how I never had a washer/dryer inside my apartment for my 4 years of college and the 2 years Kyle was in grad school and I get over it pretty quickly.

Laundry

So, laundry. Love it or hate it, it’s something we all have to do. Today I want to share 4 ways to make doing the laundry more enjoyable. I hope it helps you eek out at least a little more enjoyment out of one of the many, many tasks we do as a mother/wife/homemaker/person. Because we need all the happiness we can get 🙂

Find a schedule that works for you.

A few months ago I posted about how to make a cleaning schedule, and laundry is definitely included in that! I currently (try) to stick to doing laundry two days a week, on Monday and Thursdays. Doing a couple loads each day helps me feel like I get “done” with laundry, even if it’s not really the case. I know others (like my friend Erica) who enjoy doing a load every day. It doesn’t matter to me how often you do your laundry, ha, as long as you find a schedule that works for you, and that you can keep up with. Doing that is definitely the first step to enjoying your laundry experience 😉

Laundry

Have a system for lost and mis-matched socks.

Lost and mismatched socks are the worst, amiright? Those little buggers are always disappearing! I’ve come across two great systems for lost socks, and am excited to share them with you! One is to wash all socks together in a mesh garment bag. They’ll get clean AND won’t be lost. Win-win. The other is to have a lost sock station, which I actually don’t have right now. Currently lone socks just get thrown onto my dresser, but one day I would love to make (or buy) a lost sock sign for my laundry room (set Dobby free, anyone?). I know it will make doing the laundry just that much better when I don’t have to worry about mis-matched socks all the time.

Have a separate hamper for items to pre-treat.

How many times have I pulled something out of the dryer, seen a stain, and thought, “ah, crap, I was going to pre-treat that”? I do this ALL THE TIME. Buy a small hamper (you can get one at the dollar store) and throw in every article of clothing you want to pre-treat. Once you have a hamper full, you can either run a small load, or just add them to another small load. This will save you so much hassle and energy in the long run. I highly recommend it!

Use products that you love.

I’ve only recently really started to be concerned about what products I’m using and why. Whether it’s for cleaning my house, doing the laundry, or make-up and skin products, I’ve taken a turn and started to make intentional purposes and figuring out what products I actually like to use, and not just which ones are the cheapest 😉 One thing that has always bugged me about doing the laundry is that that fresh laundry smell does not actually happen. I want my clothes to smell fresh and clean when they come out of the washer and dryer, not dirty! So, while I’ve found a great detergent that cleans my clothes well, I still haven’t found one that I love that does that and offers that freshness (that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg). That’s where Purex® Crystals come in. Purex Crystals offers 12 Weeks of Freshness at a great price, in 10 different scents!

Laundry

Do you want to know what I’m most excited about? Purex just came out with a new line of crystals called Botanicals. They feature no dyes and are made with essential oils, and I cannot wait to get my hands on them! I’ve enjoyed Purex Crystals so much, but as I get continue making the change to more natural products, this one fits right in line with that. Purex Crystals are sold at most stores you frequent (I picked mine up at WinCo) as well as online, so you can find them basically anywhere you might do your shopping. Purex Crystals provide a great scent at a great price! And I really have been loving them.
