Raising A Reader (+ A Giveaway!)

Raising a Reader

It’s no secret that I love books and I love to read. I was potty-trained with books, I was punished by the withholding of books, I always had stacks and shelves full of books all around my room and my house. My mom loves books, too, so I was always surrounded by books and she made sure I had access to as many as I wanted.

Now with kids of my own, I want to foster in them that same love of books and reading that I have. How am I doing that? Well, step one is simply this:

Surrounding my kids with books.

That’s it! I’m a firm believer that just surrounding them with books and allowing them easy access to books and exposing them to books at a young age is the BEST thing you could be doing to help raise a reader. Of course there are other steps you can and should take as they get older (and I discussed a few of them here) but just having the books is a major step in the right direction. And so…. Well, we have a lot of books. I believe books are something that it’s ok to have a lot of. (Even if they’re a pain to move. Ha.) But I also believe that it’s important to only have quality books that you love. But anyway – I digress.

Today I want to share with you some wonderful, quality books that I LOVE having around my house. Have you heard of Usborne Books? (You might remember me mentioning them back here.) Usborne Books is a direct selling company that sells high quality books and more! From activity books to board books to interactive books to sticker books, Usborne has something for everyone. And I mean EVERYONE. Babies up through adults will enjoy their products. I sure know I do! (I’ve thought about becoming a consultant… But I don’t think I’m quite ready to commit to that yet. What do you think? Should I?)

My sweet friend Monica is an Usborne consultant, and offered to send me some books to showcase on MLS, and I’m so excited to share the ones she picked out for me and my kiddos. And let me tell you, she picked out some amazing ones. Just take a look!

Usborne Books

Opposites | Muddle and Match | Construction Site | Alphabet | Coloring Book | Sticker Book | Colors | Animally

Some of my favorites for the stage Abe is in now are the Lift-The-Flap Opposites, Muddle and Match, Learn Colors, and Animally. All so perfect for Abe! But I know he will love the Shine-A-Light On The Construction Site soon, as well as the sticker book and the wipe clean alphabet book, too. And let’s be honest, Momma is sure enjoying the coloring book for herself!

Usborne books are seriously the greatest quality. The first time I received books, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was blown away by how amazing they were.  A couple of my favorites that I didn’t talk about above are here, here, and here. And I’m dying to get this one when Abe is a bit older.

I’m going to be hosting an online Facebook party for Monica next Wednesday, the 17th, at 8 pm MST. If you want to check out more books that Usborne has to offer go here to shop my party. And please comment below if you’d like to be added to the party on Facebook! To be honest, I’m not usually a fan of Facebook parties, but Usborne ones are so fun because you get introduced to so many awesome books. So look around the site, and then come join us next week to learn more about Usborne Books. (PS, Monica offers free shipping on orders $75+ [refund via paypal or check] so now you have even more reason to shop!)

ALSO because Monica is so awesome, she has offered to give away 2 books to one lucky reader. The winner will be able to pick from any of the Muddle and Match books (for your kiddo) and your choice of an adult coloring (for you!). Enter below – and good luck! The giveaway will run through next Tuesday night. [Book choices may be limited to availability.]
