Setting Goals

A couple of mornings ago I was sitting in bed, the sunshine streaming in the window, and I just thought. Kyle had already left for work, and Abe was still sleeping. It was still, and quiet, and gorgeous. Mornings are the time of day when I feel God most close to me.

As I sat there, I thought of what I need to improve on. Life is a journey, and there is always room to improve ourselves. Improve as better wives, mothers, people. We have been so blessed, and there is not time to sit around and do nothing with the blessings we have been given.

Now that we’re back from our trip to Utah, it’s time to set some goals, and achieve them. I’m hoping to really work on these, because I am like probably 95% of you and have a hard time sticking to goals for longer than like a week. But setting (and keeping/achieving) your goals are so important. I find that when I stick to my goals, I feel happier and more fulfilled.

My best friend Dani, over at Dani elena, shared this quote via social media a couple of days ago, and I loved it. I think it’s really fitting of what I have been feeling. There is absolutely NO NEED for you to beat yourself up over what you haven’t been doing. Everyone makes mistakes, and it’s normal to fall off the path you’ve set for yourself sometimes. But instead of focusing on that – just set goals and move forward. Become who you want to be and don’t focus on who you used to be.

Back to setting goals…. With a few of my goals, I find that I need some sort of reward system in order to keep going (especially goals that are fitness related). But others that are more spiritually and family related, all I really need is the satisfaction of
knowing that I am doing what I need to be doing.
As I focus on becoming who I want to be, I feel uplifted and a more happier person all around.

All that being said, here are the goals I have set for myself:

1) Read my scriptures every day and journal along.
I need to say my morning and night prayers as well. This is one of those things that is so simple and important, yet can fall by the wayside so easily. I just got a new scripture journal though, so I’m excited to use that.

2) Exercise at least 3 times a week, plus engage in other physical activities (such as family walks, etc).

3) Eat more healthy – prepare healthier meals, snacks, etc.

4) Stick to our budget!
Since I’m not working and we have a little one that racks up costs (diapers! formula!) we definitely need to be better at this. And be we I mean I need to be better. I’ve recently redone our whole budget, and am going to stick to it! But that will be a post for another day….

5) Spend more time with Kyle (that’s not centered around Abe).
Having a new baby is tough. It’s tiring and draining and takes up a lot of time. It’s so important to continue to build your spousal relationship after the baby is born, and I need to get better at doing that. Added to this goal should be to finish reading And Baby Makes Three.
{We love the Gottmans in our house!}

6) Learn how to use the manual settings on my camera and take better pictures.

{I’ll be writing up a post dedicated to numbers 2 and 3 in a few days – getting fit, here I come!}

Do you have any goals you’d like to set? What are they?
What motivates you to achieve them?
