City of Stairs {A Book Review}

{Pssst, my Tour Through Blogland post was supposed to go up today — but it’s just not done. Sigh. But this one was all prepped and ready to go, so you get it instead! I promise I’ll get that tour up in the next day or two!}

Have you heard of the website Blogging for Books? I stumbled across it a few weeks ago and fell in love. You sign up for free, pick a book, and they will send you an electronic or paper copy of it to read and review on your blog. Amazing, right? Especially for book lovers like me. If that sounds like something up your alley, you should check it out!

City of Stairs Robert Jackson Bennett

Here’s my brief blurb about City of Stairs:

6 gods, or Divinities, used to watch over and rule the Continent, and with their power, the people of the Continent enslaved the people of Saypur. However, 75 years ago, a Saypuri man, the Kaj, killed the Divinities, and the roles of those two countries were switched. Now, the Saypuri government is in charge, and the once grand city of Bulikov is in ruins.

And when the body of an old professor is found, only Shara, a descendant of the Kaj ,an operative for the Saypuri government, and the most knowledgeable person about the Divinities and Bulilov’s past can find out who was behind the murder and why.

Honestly,  I wasn’t sure what to expect! But after carefully reading some reviews on the books that were available, I decided to go with this one, even though it was a little out of my usual comfort zone, reading-wise. And I am so glad I did.
I loved this book. I loved the original world and characters, I loved the fast-paced story-line. There was a bit of romance, and it’s a mystery, and there’s even a bit of humor tucked in there. I definitely would recommend it to anyone, even though that don’t usually like fantasy novels, like me.

Just FYI: there is a bit of language (one character really enjoys the F word). I’m not usually too picky about language in my books, but I just wanted to let you know in case you are 🙂

Have you read this book? Or have you tried out Blogging for Books?
