LDS Faith and Beliefs | I am a Christian

For the past week and a half I have been trying to find the words to write about what my religion means to me — but more specifically, what Christ means to me. As you probably know by know, I am a Mormon, or Latter-day Saint, and I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We’ve been called peculiar, weird, a cult, and lots of other names by people around the world, but, I am a Christian. A Christian is defined as someone who is a believer in Jesus Christ and His teachings – someone who is a literal follower of Christ, who believes in and has faith on His name. We as a whole church body, and I, personally, believe in and follow Christ. Our church is centered  on and founded on Him and His life and ministry, His Atonement, death and resurrection. He is central in my life, He is my best friend. I believe in Him, I follow His example, and I try to do all I can do be like Him and spread His gospel. There are many Christians who do not believe I am a Christian, or one of them, but go back and read my beliefs…  Do they not make me a Christian? I understand that we have some different beliefs then many other Christian denominations, but I would bet that there are differences in between other denominations as well — or wouldn’t they all be the same name? And so, just because I have different beliefs than others, I am still a Christian. Just as Protestants and Episcopalians and Catholics and all others are Christian, Mormons are Christian, too.

As I’ve been typing out my thoughts, feelings and beliefs, the blog post became way too long and I hadn’t even addressed everything that I wanted to. After thinking for a while, I decided to start a series that will consist of different parts of the LDS faith. Some aspects are confusing, strange, or just plain unbelievable, and I get that. So hopefully I can give you a little bit of knowledge about what members of the LDS Church believe in, and help you understand see that we are Christians, too. And normal, and not crazy or brainwashed.

I am going to aim to publish these posts on Fridays. Whether it is every Friday or not, I can’t tell you. It will depend on the time and energy I have available during the week to write posts. If you have any specific questions about the LDS Church and culture that you’d like answered, please, let me know! You can either leave them in comment form, or you can fill out the google form below.

I’m excited to share these beliefs with you, and I hope that this series will clear up and questions or misunderstanding any of you may have about the LDS Church. I’m looking forward to this series — and I hope you are, too!

“And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.”
