LDS Faith and Beliefs | The Godhead (also known as The Trinity)

Today I’m tackling a topic that is one of the main differences between the LDS church and the rest of the Christian world, and that is the topic of the Godhead, or the Trinity. Unlike the vast majority of Christians, we do not believe that God, Christ and the Holy Spirit are one in the literal sense. We believe they are separate beings, but that they are one in purpose. Everything they do is in harmony and complements each other, but they are not the same person.

God is our Father
We call him our Heavenly Father, because He is literally the father of our spirits. He has a body of flesh and bone and we were created in His image. (Genesis 1:27) He is all powerful, all knowing, and He is to whom we pray, through Jesus. God is God. He is supreme, yet He loves us and knows us individually as a parent knows their child(ren). 

Jesus Christ is our Savior
He is our elder spirit brother, and the Only Begotten of the Father. This means that God was His literal father when He was born on the earth. He has a resurrected body of flesh and bone, like the Father. Christ atoned for our sins, He died of us, and He was resurrected that we might live with Him and our Heavenly Father again. He loves us. He knows our heart aches, our trials because He went through them for us. That’s all I will say right now, as right now I am literally weeping, thinking about what He did for me, and for all of us. I’ll write a whole post on the Atonement at another date. 

The Holy Ghost is our Comforter
He comforts us and reveals truths to our hearts. He is not a personage of flesh and bone, but is a Spirit, so He is able to dwell in us, comfort us, and testify to us.

Here a few New Testament references that I believe show the three members of the Godhead to be separate beings:
Matthew 3: 13-17
Christ is baptized, God speaks from Heaven, Holy Ghost descends like a dove.
John 20:27
Thomas sees the resurrected Lord and feels the wounds in His side and hands.
Acts 7:55-56
Stephen sees Christ standing on the right hand of God.
