LDS Faith and Beliefs | Prophets

Today’s post will be short and sweet, for two reasons. One, I wanted to make sure I had this post up today, and two, I will be linking two web pages below that explain prophets a million times better than I could. As I just stated, and as I’m sure you could tell by the post title, today I wanted to write about prophets. One thing that makes us as Latter-day Saints unique is that we believe we have a living prophet on the Earth today. Just as Moses, Isaiah, Abraham, Malachi, etc. were prophets, so is our prophet Thomas S. Monson.

God calls prophets to testify of Christ, and to lead His followers on Earth today. After Christ’s and his apostles’ deaths, there was not a prophet, or anyone on the Earth, who had God’s authority. This all changed when Joseph Smith was called to restore Christ’s Church to the Earth. And what a glorious thing that was, and is! We now have a prophet who gives us guidance, counsel and words of warning. He speaks with God’s authority, and tells us what God and Christ would tell us themselves if they were on Earth today. (Thomas S. Monson is also the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and looks over all aspects of the Church — financially, etc. although of course there are many who work under him to help him tend to all the aspects he needs to look after.)

Some may find this a bit crazy, and indeed, even some members of the Church have a hard time remembering that President Monson is called of God. But I know that he is. I know that the guidance he gives, whether it is popular or unpopular by the world’s opinion, is true and real.

I love President Monson, and I sustain him in all that he does. I can not imagine how hard it would be have such a weight on your shoulders. But he bears it magnificently. This blog post captures how I feel, and more.
