2017 Goals and PowerSheets

Last week I wrote a (very long) post about my current state of mind, my word of the year, and what I’m going to really be focusing on this year (which includes taking a little bit of a step back from this blog). It’s been a couple of weeks since I started this, and I am already feeling so much less stressed, and have accomplished a lot around my house and in my personal life.

I also shared about how I’ve been utilizing Lara Casey’s PowerSheets this year, and how they have really helped me solidify my feelings and thinking. I think it’s hard to really tell you how amazing the PowerSheets are. The prep section is just fantastic, and really helps you work through your feelings and thoughts and priorities. The PowerSheets, along with Lara’s book Make It Happen, have really helped me change my mindset on what I want to accomplish in life, and why, and how. I love them. I really do. (And psst, 6 month PowerSheets are available now for pre-order!)

Today I thought I’d share my goals for the year with you all. My overall goals are more broad, and I have some specific ways I’m going to work on them to achieve them. I’m also not focusing on all of them at the same time, but rather am focusing on a few specific tasks each month. Much less overwhelming that way 🙂 So, here we go, my goals for 2017:

  1. Grow in my relationship with Kyle and make him the priority in my life.
    1. Some ways  achieve this are: Planning intentional date nights, working through Lists to Love By For Busy Wives, re-reading The Five Love Languages, etc.
  2. Become a healthier me, because I want to feel healthier, stronger, and be able to do fun activities with my family.
    1. Some ways to achieve this are: Keeping junk food out of my house (because I WILL eat it if it’s there), drinking at least 60 ounces of water a day, working out 2-3 times a week (even if it’s just 10 minutes), running a 5K.
  3. Create a welcoming home.
    1. Some ways to achieve this are: getting rid of stuff and moving towards minimalism, decorating the full upstairs of our house by the end of the year, sticking to my cleaning schedule.
  4. Financial Freedom!
    1. Some ways to achieve this are: continually using a cash budget, paying off our student loan debt.
  5. Act on promptings from the Spirit to serve and cultivate friendships.
    1. Some ways to achieve this are: looking for ways to serve, saying “yes” to opportunities to serve, sending little notes and/or calling friends on the phone.
  6. Find a balance and step back from the blog.
    1. Some ways to achieve this are: getting out of the “blog” mindset, posting content when I want and about what I want.
  7. Build my parenting skills and relationships with my kids.
    1. Some ways to achieve this are: going on one-on-one dates with my kids, spending intentional play time with my kids each day.
  8. Come to know Christ better than I do now.
    1. Ways I plan to achieve this are: following my scripture study schedule (rotating between different books of scripture, reading from the Gordon B. Hinckley manual, and preparing my lessons for the girls I teach at church 2x a month), daily prayer, finishing my Personal Progress.

So those are my overall goals for the year, but like I said, I’m not going to be working on them all, all the time. Working on these goals might be something simple, like choosing one aspect of one goal and working on making it a habit. It might look like intentionally working on one goal a month. It might look like trying to develop different Christlike attributes one at a time.

Overall it’s going to look like progress. It’s going to be ok if I mess up. It’s going to be ok if I don’t end up liking one of my goals (or smaller steps) and end up changing it. It’s going to be ok. Because I am working on progress, not perfection.
