Abe {6 Months}

I haven’t done any monthly updates on Abe on this blog – because I know it gets a little repetitive from month to month. BUT in honor of Abe turning 6 months old today, I had to get in a quick post. How has my baby been on this earth for a half of a year already?!

Height: 26 inches (50th percentile)
Weight: 15 pounds, 7 ounces (25th percentile)
Head Circumference: 45 centimeters (90th percentile)

Sleeping:
Abe is still the greatest sleeper. He’s been more or less sleeping through the night since he was about 2-2.5 months old. He goes to be around 9 pm, and will generally wake up once between 3:30-5:30 am to eat, then goes straight back to sleep until 9 or 10 am. Occasionally he will sleep straight through and wake up around 8 am. {But to be honest I don’t mind getting up for 15 minutes if he sleeps in 2 hours later.}  He also takes one or two 2-4 hour naps each day — just depending on our schedule and what time he woke up.
We stopped swaddling him around 4.5-5 months — because the swaddlers got too small and I had noticed he was falling asleep during play time — so we tried it out one night and haven’t looked back! I did buy a sleep blanket in case he needs it during the winter.
He started sleeping in his crib at 3 months old and does awesome at that. Since 4 months or so I’ve been able to put him down awake and he drifts off to sleep quickly by himself. Occasionally he’ll cry or fuss for 1-5 minutes but then he’s out.

Eating:
Abe is still taking a bottle every 2-3 hours during the day (drinking 4-6 ounces each time). We also started him on rice cereal about 3 weeks ago, and it’s so hilarious to watch. Just this week he’s actually learned how to swallow some instead of spitting it all out — so we’re making progress! We’ll probably start with veggie purees in the next few weeks.

Favorites:
+ Sticking his tongue out all the time.
+ When mom or dad tickles him.
+ Playing in his exersaucer.
+ Getting his clothes changed.
+ When we wipe the spit up off his face.
+ When mom or dad (gently) throw him in the air.
+ Talking up a storm.
+ Drooling all over himself and mom and dad.
+ Kicking!
+ Grabbing his toes, our faces, our clothes, his toys, his burp cloth, etc.
+ Sticking everything in his mouth.

Dislikes:
+ When other babies and little kids cry or make loud noises. His whole face crinkles up and he starts to wail.

This boy is still so happy about 90% of the time. He is such a smiley and giggly baby, especially at home. When we go out in public though, he has this blank stare face that cracks me up – and causes a lot of people to ask me if he ever smiles. Oh yes, he does. A lot.

He rolls and scoots and gets around so well! He has recently started to try to push up on his hands and knee and stick his little bum up in the air, so we think that crawling is not too far off! He is still spitting up a lot, but it still doesn’t bother him at all, so we’ve just learned to roll with it. We just make sure to always have a couple of burp cloths on hand. He holds his own bottle now which is the cutest thing. He also got his first two teeth when he was about 4.5 months old. His little grin kills me. Oh, and he’s wearing size 2 diapers and we just pulled out his 6 month and 6-9 month clothes. He can still fit in his 3 month and 3-6 month clothes, but they are starting to get a little small.

We sure love this little guy, and we’re so glad he’s ours.
