Just a Few Things About Being a Mom

As a mom, you’re constantly trying to figure out new ways to help your child grow and learn. Abe is just getting to the stage that we can actually interact with him and play and it’s been the funnest thing. He is a hoot, and will just make the funniest faces that make us laugh, and then he’ll laugh at us laughing. He’s got the best grin and the best giggle and being his mom is the best. (Is that enough bests for you?)

One thing he really enjoys is music. As soon as I put music on or if I start singing, he’ll immediately start “singing” along and conducting the music. Because of this, I’ve started to put together a selection of kids songs for him so he doesn’t always have to rock out to Beyonce with me 😉 So when Family Christian offered to send me a Sing and Play Activity Kit I was thrilled. The CD comes with 18 songs – some about faith, and some just regular, fun children songs. It’s so fun to sing and dance to them with Abe and I think he likes it, too. The kit also comes with some stickers, a small coloring book and crayons. Abe’s not quite old enough to do those things by himself yet, but I had fun kind of guiding him during his first coloring experience.

Another thing I’ve been thinking of, as a mom, is the type of entertainment we let into our house. Kyle and I believe in a pretty strict “no screen” time rule, but we also believe, of course, that there is a time and place for it (I’ll probably do another post on that another day). We’ve stopped watching any shows or movies with more “adult” content in it while he’s awake, but occasionally we’ll put on an episode of Baby Einstein or other toddler show, just for fun. (And let’s be honest, sometimes I sneak in an episode of Gilmore Girls on rough days.) Family Christian also sent me a copy of the new movie The Good Book, and I was excited to get another clean movie to add to our collection. We watched this movie on Monday night as part of our “family night” and I was near tears the entire time. This movie is a silent film, that shows how one small copy of the Holy Bible can make it’s way through multiple people’s hands and touch their lives. It was so sweet. The truths found in the Bible truly can heal us if we let them. If you’re looking for an uplifting (although sad at some parts), religious, family  movie, I definitely recommend this one.

What movies and music do your little ones enjoy?

I received free product from Family Christian in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
