Fighting Blindness and AMD

I was compensated for this post, all opinions are my own.

Want to know a (not so) fun fact about me? I have terrible eyesight. I got glasses in kindergarten, hard contacts in second grade, and still wear them daily, of course. My prescriptions are about -10 in each eye. My most recurring nightmares since I was little have been about being kidnapped in the middle of the night, without being able to grab my glasses or contacts, and I don’t like being in the dark. I just hate not being able to see. It’s not a phobia, per se, but it is something I’m scared of – not having clear vision.

All of this said — I’m teaming up with The Foundation Fighting Blindness to share a little bit about AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration). AMD is an eye disease that causes the loss of central vision. Every year nearly 10 million Americans go blind due to AMD, but the exciting news is that a cure is in sight! The Foundation Fighting Blindness  has provided funding for research on cures for blindness, specifically AMD, since 1971. And with the research FFB has already made possible, treatments to stop and in some cases even reverse retinal disease is a reality.

To learn more about AMD and how you can prevent it click here! This will bring up a PDF you can read through to learn more about this disease. There are a lot of different factors that play into AMD, but by living a healthy lifestyle, and getting regular eye exams, you can help prevent, or at least slow down, AMD in your life. I know how scary it is to not be able to see, and to have your vision worsen.
