October 2016

I always look forward to linking up with Anne and her co-host (this month, Jacqui!) for the monthly currently link up. Feel free to join in with us and share what you’re up to this beautiful October 2016.

CHEERS-ING | to fall! Because, hallelujah, I love this time of year. (#basicwhitegirl over here, no shame.) I love the weather, the fashion, and pretty much just everything about (other than Halloween… I’m not really a fan, except for the candy. Give me all the candy.).

ORGANIZING | our home. Lately I’ve been sick of all of our stuff. I have even read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying up, but enough of my friends have that I feel like I have a pretty good grip on what it’s about, and that alone has pushed me forward in organizing our home, and trying to live minimally. We also have been moving ahead on home organization projects, and I’ve just felt really motivated lately as far as that’s concerned. I may not be the tidiest person ever, but I’m an organizational freak, for real.

DREAMING | of our Florida vacation. It might be over 5 months away, but I’m so excited! We’re planning to visit Magic Kingdom, Sea World, Busch Gardens, and Universal (duh) and of course just spend time with my dad and Steven.

BUYING | groceries? I haven’t been buying much lately, but I’m starting to get an itch to buy Christmas presents!

LISTENING | my kiddos giggling together. Abe and Eliza have been playing together more and more lately and it really warms my heart. It is so cute to see them interact together and laugh together. It’s really the best thing ever.

In order to make this monthly post even more personal, and to make it work for me better, I thought I’d add in a few new currently topics so I can update you on me, my family, and any goals I have for the month. I hope you enjoy this little change! I’ll probably be tweaking it the next couple months or so, until I get it to where I want, so please bear with me 🙂

PERSONAL |

This has been a hard week. I tried to post about it on Instagram earlier today, but didn’t quite have the words to say what I’ve been feeling. Kyle’s been sick, I haven’t been sleeping well, and we have a toddler and a baby! Sometimes things just get a little overwhelming. Abe miiight be ready to cut out his nap soon, which I’m not ready for, as that’s the time I work on my blog and other endeavors. I have so many things I want to write and share on this blog, but I don’t have the time. You might say I’m overwhelmed, but also extremely motivated 😉 I’m trying to learn to say “no” to things, too. For example, I was supposed to post a How We Wore It post today, but at the last minute I backed out. I think I might be over-exerting myself sometimes, and I need to pull back a bit.

Mostly my life can be summed up like this: I’m exhausted. And when you’re exhausted, you feel like you can’t do anything. I know the simple fix is to get more sleep, but I don’t know how to get this baby of mine to sleep. It’s a battle I’m still facing. Ah, well.

I’m ready to put my best foot forward this month though, and re-commit to some goals. I like who I am, but we can always progress, always be better. Often times we start to progress in one aspect of life, and we regress in other areas, which is what I think has been happening with me personally. There’s always a balance to find, isn’t there?

FAMILY |

I did just do an update last week, so I don’t have too much to update on here. We had a fantastic weekend watching General Conference (more about it to come on Friday). We love these two weekends a year when we hear from men of God. Poor Kyle has a cold, though, and he actually took Monday off of work. He hasn’t taken a sick day in, oh, at least a year, so you know he was feeling pretty crummy. But he’s feeling a bit better now. Our kids are doing their kid thing, so that’s a fun time, too. We have a fun things planned this month, so I’ll share as we go.

GOALS |

Oh, goals. I always make goals and then never remember to actually write them down somewhere I will see them, so I fall off whatever wagon I jumped on pretty quickly. I honestly have so many goals and things I want to work on, but it’s hard when your baby is still waking up 2-4 times a night so when your alarm goes off you have no desire to get out of bed. So I make goals, and then don’t accomplish them, and feel bad about it and then I cry. That’s pretty much my pattern right now. Here are goals I’d like to do:

  1. Wake up early in order to exercise and read my scriptures before the kids wake up.
(In reality: lay in bed exhausted until Abe wakes up and starts banging on his door.)
  2. Clean up the kitchen after every meal.
(In reality: quickly shove the milk back in the fridge before Eliza gets into the fridge and Abe demands more. Maybe put the dishes on the counter from the table before both kids demand my attention.)
  3. Do the dishes before bed.
(In reality: sit on the couch exhausted after the kids are in bed and watch a show.)

The main thing I want to focus on right now is reading my scriptures every day. No matter the time or how long. Just read something. That’s what I’ll be working on.

I didn’t mean for this to be a downer post, so I apologize if it came across like that. I really do love my life right now. I’m just in a season of figuring out balance and priorities. Ya feel me?  So take this for what it is, a real and vulnerable post.

Thanks for reading, friends. I love you all! 🙂
